US THAAD System in South Korea Becomes Operational

An American missile-defense system deployed to counter growing threats from North Korea has gone into operation in South Korea, reports the New York Times.

Russia Deployed Advanced AEW Aircraft to Syria

According to local sources, the Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW) aircraft arrived at the Hmeimim airbase in the town of Jableh few days after the US missile strike on the Al-Sha’irat airbase.

The aircraft was identified as an upgraded version of the A-50U equipped with the Vega Shmel-M radar, capable of detecting the launch of a missile or a fighter jet in the range of 650km. The detection range for ground targets is 300km.

Turkey-Russia S-400 Missile Deal Approved

“We have agreed in principle with Russia for the purchase of S-400 missile systems. Joint production and price negotiations are underway,” Haberturk newspaper reported quoting Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu as saying.

It is possible that the issue of S-400 deliveries [to Turkey] may feature during the meeting of both leaders [Putin and Erdogan], Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was quoted as saying by local media Thursday.

Syria Wants Russian Missile Systems for Defense against Tomahawk-like Attacks

Syria is negotiating to buy missile defense systems from Russia to defend itself against Israeli and American attacks.

"It is natural for us to negotiate with the Russians now with a view to strengthening (our) systems, whether to face any Israeli threats from the air or the threats of American missiles," Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in an interview to Venezuelan channel Telesur. The interview was published on Syrian Arab News Agency.

Physical security systems are connected to communication networks to enable monitoring and control. This connection leaves the systems vulnerable to cyberattacks, threatens national security and affects public safety.

Israel Seeks US Backing to Avert Permanent Iran Foothold in Syria

Israel is seeking an "understanding" with the Trump administration that Iran must not be allowed to establish a permanent military foothold in Syria, Israel's intelligence minister told Reuters.

In an interview, visiting Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz said he was also using his meetings with White House officials and key lawmakers to press for further US sanctions on Iran and the Iranian-backed Lebanese militia Hezbollah, which is supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

IDF to Receive New Naval Guns from the US

The US State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to Israel for 76mm Naval Gun and Technical Support. The estimated cost is $440 million.

Israeli Navy Receives New Super Dvora MK III

The Israeli Navy received the last of three Super Dvora MK III fast patrol boats on 27 April.

Built by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Ramta, the boats are the latest C variant, meaning they have improved communications equipment, the latest weapons systems, an upgraded machine room, and more space for the crew, the IDF stated.

The latest boat joined the Haifa-based Squadron 914, which patrols Israel's northern Mediterranean coastline.
