Egypt Inaugurates New Counter-Terrorism Command Center in Sinai

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi inaugurated on February 25, 2018, the East of the Suez Canal Counter-Terrorism command. Several top state and army officials attended the event, including Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, Minister of Defense Sedki Sobhi, Army Chief of Staff Mohamed Farid and others. The new facility is a meeting and visitor center constructed by military engineers 27 meters underground.

Qatar, Russia in Talks over Su-35 Fighter Jets

Russia and Qatar are holding talks on possible delivery of Sukhoi-35 fighter jets to the Qatari Air Force. According to TASS, the talks were confirmed by Vladimir Kozhin, the Russian President’s aide for cooperation in defense technologies.

On January 25, Qatar’s Ambassador to Russia Fahad bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah told TASS that Doha was holding "advanced negotiations" with Moscow over the purchase of S-400 missile defense systems.

Indonesia Buys Wing Loong I UAVs from China

According to a contract signed in 2017, the Indonesian Air Force is purchasing four Wing Loong I medium-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicles (MALE UAVs) manufactured by Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC).

This platform is capable of reconnaissance, surveillance, and meteorological operations. In 2014, the Chinese Air Force displayed the Wing-Loong with its full range of weapon systems and optics showing its capabilities to conduct combat missions.

IAF Tests "Mobileye" System for Helicopters

The IAF's Flight Test Squadron is in the process of testing a new capability aimed at providing early notification of possible helicopter collisions. According to the IAF website, the capability is based on an application installed in a system utilized by every IAF aircraft and will be integrated into the IAF Helicopter Division as part of a system update.

Report: Egypt Received Mi-24 Attack Helicopters

A report by mahmouedgamal44 reveals that the Egyptian Air Force received the Russian Mi-24 Hind attack helicopters late last year. The report is based on satellite images showing the helicopters at Burg El-Arab airport near Alexandria.

Ukraine Develops New Kamikaze Drone

The Defense and Electronic Technologies (CDET) Company of Ukraine has developed a new loitering munition called RAM UAV.

According to the company, the RAM UAV is a catapult-launched system with a maximum flight range of 30 km and a loitering duration of up to 40 minutes. The system is 1.8m-long, has a wing-span of 2.3m, and has a maximum take-off weight of 8kg.

The system is equipped with a multi-purpose warhead (cumulative pre-fragmented thermobaric) and can carry up to 3 kg warhead.

 

IAF Presents: RPAV Training Day

The RPAV Division is one of the IAF's busiest divisions, performing intelligence, detection and documentation missions around the clock. According to the IAF website, a designated RPAV Division training day was held recently in order to strengthen the cooperation between the squadrons.

"Combat Intelligence Collection is a Force Multiplier"

The "Eitam" combat intelligence collection battalion, operating out of Camp Hayoun, was established following the events along Route #12 in 2011. That sequence of security incidents led the IDF to identify a gap in the intelligence collection capability opposite Egypt. The battalion dominates a fence system about 500 km long along the border with Egypt and on the other side, opposite Jordan. In the last two years, the battalion has upgraded its long-range intelligence collection (surveillance) capabilities, both stationary and mobile.
