North Korea Fires 'Scud-Type' Ballistic Missile

North Korea fired a ballistic missile from its eastern coast early Monday morning, dealing another blow to efforts by South Korea's new government to improve inter-Korean ties.

The missile, presumed to be a Scud-type, was launched eastward from the vicinity of Wonsan, Gangwon Province, at around 5:39 a.m., according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS). "The flight distance is around 450 kilometers," it said.

Israel Tests Rocket Propulsion System

Israel on Monday tested a rocket propulsion system, the Israeli Defense Ministry announced.

"Israel has tested a new rocket propulsion system from a base in the center of the country," the ministry said in a brief statement. "The test was arranged in advance by the security services and was carried out as planned."

The statement did not say whether the launch had been successful.

Based on eyewitness accounts, it took place at the Palmachim air base in the center of the country.

The Minya Massacre in Egypt

Terrorists who used machine guns, opened fire last Friday on vehicles carrying Egyptian Coptic Christians to Al-Anba Samuel monastery south of Cairo, killing 29 (mostly children) and injuring 24 others. There were between 10 to 12 masked gunmen dressed in military uniforms driving three 4x4 wheelers. The attack took place in Upper Egypt’s Minya governorate, home to a sizeable Christian minority. The bloodshed came on the eve of the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Simulated Disaster Exercise Tested the Hermes 450 UAV

A simulated disaster response exercise that took place in Mayville and Hillsboro, USA, studied ways that unmanned aircraft can respond to wounded residents, downed power lines, and difficulty reaching the disaster area.

The response is being sponsored by Xcel Energy, the state of North Dakota, the University of North Dakota, Elbit Systems of America, General Electric, Northern Plains UAS Test Site and SkySkopes.

The test flights included two smaller drones and a larger Hermes 450 aircraft.
