IAI Delivers First LRSAM Missile to Indian Navy

At a ceremony held on Sunday, August 27 in Hyderabad, India, the first LRSAM Missile manufactured in India was delivered to India's Minister of Defense Mr. Arun Jaitley, who awarded it to the Indian Navy. The Missile is part of the LRSAM air & missile defense system of India's Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), to be installed in India's operational missile ships whose construction has been completed recently.

North Korea Test-Fired Ballistic Missile over Japan

North Korea on Tuesday fired a mid-range ballistic missile designed to carry a nuclear payload over Japan for the first time, in a strategic provocation aimed at escalating tensions in the region. The launch prompted the government in Tokyo to warn residents in its path to take cover.

Yonhap News reports that the missile was fired eastward from the vicinity of Sunan in Pyongyang at around 5:57 am, according to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

Russia's Future Aircraft: "MiG-41" Interceptor

Russia's new MiG interceptor aircraft will be able to reach space and even potentially operate without a pilot, according to Ilya Tarasenko, CEO of the MiG Corporation. The new fighter is expected to replace the aging long-range interceptor MiG-31 and its variants.

The research and development of the PAK DP (perspective aviation complex of long-range interceptor), dubbed by media with the unofficial designation MiG-41, was launched by the MiG Corporation in 2013. Tarasenko believes that the new interceptor might go to into production by the mid-2020s.

UN Cyberwarfare Talks Collapsed Due to Dispute between the West and China, Russia

Thirteen years of negotiations at the United Nations aimed at restricting cyberwarfare collapsed in June, it has emerged, due to a bitter dispute between Russia, China and Cuba and Western countries, according to The Guardian.

The split among legal and military experts at the UN has reinforced distrust at a time of mounting diplomatic tension over cyber-attacks, such as the 2016 hacking of the US Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) computers.

Israel Finalizes Deal for 17 Additional F-35 Stealth Fighters

The Israeli Defense Ministry has completed the acquisition process of 17 more F-35 stealth jets. The purchase is part of a larger deal to buy a total of 50 F-35 planes, which will enter service in the Israeli Air Force in two squadrons. The initial order of 33 F-35 jets is expected to be completely delivered by 2021.

The purchase of the 17 additional fighter jets, whose delivery will be completed by December 2024, was approved by the cabinet in November 2016 and the contract was signed by Maj. Gen. (res.) Udi Adam, Director-General of IMOD.

RADA Receives $1M Follow-on Order by US Military

RADA Electronic Industries announced it has received a follow-on order worth approximately $1 million for peripheral equipment to support the installation and operation of its Multi-Mission Hemispheric Radars (MHR). This order is in continuation to the strategic order for radars, worth over $8 million, which was reported here on Aug. 17.

Russia to Supply Egypt with 15 Ka-52 Alligator Attack Helicopters

Russia is set to supply Egypt with 15 Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopters by the end of this year. The delivery is part of a deal to provide Egypt with 46 Alligators, Andrey Boginsky, CEO of Moscow-based rotorcraft manufacturing company Russian Helicopters, told Russian state news agency Sputnik in August 2017. Boginsky said that the first three helicopters have already been delivered and in August 2017, the second batch of three Ka-52s will be delivered to Egypt. Boginsky added that Egyptian specialists are currently being trained to operate the helicopters.

Boeing to Provide Chinook Helicopters to Saudi Arabia for $223M

Boeing has received a Foreign Military Sales contract valued at $222.5 million to provide Saudi Arabia with upgraded Chinook multi-purpose CH-47F helicopters.

The US Department of Defense announced Wednesday that the CH-47Fs to be delivered are new builds, as opposed to refurbished ones. Production is expected to be completed by July 30, 2021.

Lebanon, Syria Declare Ceasefires with ISIS

The Lebanese army has announced a ceasefire in its offensive against ISIS at the country's northeast border with Syria. The ceasefire took effect at 07:00 am local time (04:00 GMT) on Sunday.

Lebanon's army said the pause in operations would enable talks over the fate of kidnapped soldiers. According to BBC News, Nine troops were taken hostage when ISIS overran the border town of Arsal in 2014. Their fate is currently unknown.
