Turkey Releases RFP for the Altay Tank Program

Turkey’s procurement authorities have decided to release a request for proposal, to be sent to three local armored vehicles manufacturers, as part of the Altay tank program. This means that three companies will be invited to bid on the program, estimated at over $10 billion.

The Egyptian Ministry of Defense has confirmed that AN/TWQ-1 Avengers are being put on the flight decks of Mistral landing helicopter dock (LHD) amphibious assault ships to provide short-range air defense. According to IHS Jane's, the Avenger consists of a manned turret armed with eight Stinger missiles mounted on a modified Hummer vehicle.

Report: Lebanese Army to Launch Operation at Syrian Border

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri said on Tuesday the army would carry out an operation in the Juroud Arsal area of northeastern Lebanon at the Syrian border, Reuters reports.

Juroud Arsal has been a base of operations for insurgents fighting in the Syrian civil war, including al-Nusra Front and ISIS.

Report: Germany Postpones Submarine Deal with Israel Amid Corruption Probe

The signing of a memorandum of understanding on the German sale of three submarines to Israel has been postponed, a National Security Council official said.

The announcement came following a report in the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth that Germany postponed the signing of the memorandum in light of Israel's investigation into possible corruption in the deal. According to the report, the signing of the memorandum was meant to take place next week in Germany, but the event has been postponed indefinitely.

IAI, Honeywell Partner to Develop GPS Anti-Jam Navigation System

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Honeywell Aerospace have signed a memorandum of understanding to co-develop an advanced GPS Anti-Jam navigation system. According to the MoU, the two companies will engineer, manufacture and market a combined GPS Anti-Jam combined solution.

Australia will press ahead with a missile defense program to protect its forces, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said. According to Bloomberg, he ruled out the option of acquiring the US THAAD system.

The Hurghada Attack and the Continuous Terror Campaign Against Tourists in Egypt

Two German tourists were killed and four other tourists injured at a resort in Hurghada when a man attacked them with a knife on July 13, 2017. The injured include one Czech woman and two Armenian women. Hurghada is a popular tourist resort located on the Red Sea. The attack comes just as the Egyptian authorities were hoping to 'relaunch' their country as a tourist destination for 2017.
