S. Korea Launches New ISR Wing to Monitor the North's Activities

South Korea's Air Force announced it had created a bigger airborne intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) unit in response to growing nuclear and missile threats from North Korea, according to Yonhap news agency. The Air Force plans to introduce two RQ-4 Global Hawk UAVs next year, with two more to arrive from the US in 2019. 

FIMI Becomes Orbit's Controlling Shareholder

Orbit Communications Systems, a provider of precision tracking-based communications solutions and airborne communications management systems, announced that the company successfully concluded a private placement of 33.4% of its shares to FIMI Opportunity Funds for approximately $10 million, effectively making FIMI Orbit's controlling shareholder. FIMI also received options to purchase additional Orbit shares for approximately $20 million. If fully realized, FIMI would possess 56% of the company's shares.

IDF to Set Up Big Data Unit

The IDF's Cyber Division plans to set up a department dedicated to big data research, according to a high-ranking IDF officer familiar with the matter who spoke on conditions of anonymity. The Israeli military already uses big data technology for operational purposes, and it now is examining ways to expand the use of the technology, the officer said.

Israeli Troops Head to Cyprus for Joint Exercise

According to the IDF Spokesperson's Unit, an extensive military drill will be held in Cyprus, involving air and ground forces from both countries.

The exercise is said to be part of the ongoing cooperation between the IDF and the Cypriot Military. The IDF emphasizes that the exercise was preplanned as part of the military's 2017 training program and is intended to maintain the competence and readiness of the forces.

Iran and the Missile Campaign against Saudi Arabia

A ballistic missile from Yemen was intercepted on November 30, 2017, by Saudi air defense forces in the southern city of Khamis Mushait located in the southwestern province of Assir.

The missile attack was the second this month. On November 4, Saudi Arabia's aerial defense system intercepted a ballistic missile that was launched by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. The missile was intercepted near King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.

Russia Seeks Deal to Use Egypt's Airspace, Airbases

The Russian government published a draft agreement with Egypt allowing both countries to use each other’s airspace and airbases, Reuters reported on Thursday.

On November 28, Russia's Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev ordered the Russian Defense Ministry to hold negotiations with Egyptian officials and to sign the document once both sides reached an agreement.

Report: Satellite Images Show North Korea Rebuilding Launch Site

Satellite imagery captured and analyzed by the Israeli ImageSat International (ISI) show what appears to be the construction of a launch pad at the Panghyon Airbase in North Pyongyang in the past week. The same site was used for the July 4 intercontinental ballistic missile launch, according to Fox News

More than 2,000 Participants at Cybertech Tokyo

The Cybertech Tokyo Conference which was held yesterday (Thursday) was attended by thousands. More than 50 companies, including 25 Israeli companies, have taken part in the Conference, held in Japan for the first time. The exhibition held at the same time as the conference included a pavilion of the Israel Export Institute, where 11 Israeli cyber startup companies presented the latest developments and solutions they had developed.

Saudi Border Guard Receives New Patrol Boats from Germany

The coastguard arm of the Saudi Border Guard received two more Lürssen-made 40m patrol boats. Dubbed Afif and Buqayq, the new boats were delivered to the port of Dammam on Saudi Arabia’s east coast.

This marks the first deployment of these patrol boats to the east coast of Saudi Arabia. The first five vessels – which began entering service from December 2016 – are deployed in the Red Sea on the west coast and operate primarily from their base in Jeddah.
