Steel Cutting Ceremony for Israel's First Sa'ar 6 Corvette Held in Germany

The steel cutting ceremony for the first Sa'ar 6 corvette of the Israeli Navy was held at the ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) shipyard in Kiel, Germany on February 7, 2018. Israel Successfully Test Fires Arrow 3 Missile System

The Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD) and the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA) conducted a successful test of the long-range Arrow 3 missile defense system early Monday morning. The Arrow 3 is designed to intercept ballistic missiles outside the earth’s atmosphere.

The test was conducted in central Israel, led by the Israel Aerospace Industries with the participation of the Israel Air Force.

The US Bolsters Ties with Jordan

The United States delivered eight Black Hawk helicopters to Jordan on, January 29, 2018, to help its regional ally defend itself. Jordanian and US officials said another eight Black Hawks would begin arriving next year under a military aid deal worth about $200 million.

In a handover ceremony at Marka military air force base, US ambassador to Jordan said Washington had supplied "millions of rounds of small arms ammunition, hundreds of bombs" and other equipment to Jordan since February 2017.

ISA Foils Plot to Attack Defense Minister Lieberman

A plot to assassinate Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman was thwarted by the Israel Security Agency (ISA), it was cleared for publication Sunday morning.

According to a statement released by the agency, an Islamic Jihad terror cell was planning to place a bomb on a West Bank road on which Lieberman's convoy was to travel.

US MQ-9 Reaper Drone Destroyed Syrian T-72 Tank

On 10 February, a US MQ-9 Reaper drone destroyed a T-72 tank operated by pro-Assad regime forces in eastern Syria's Deir el-Zor district, US military officials said

"Coalition forces shot a T-72 tank near Tebiye on February 10, acting for self-defense," said US Colonel Ryan Dillon, adding that pro-regime forces had fired on US special operation forces and SDF fighters near the same region.

India Overtakes UK as World's Fifth-Largest Defense Spender; US Ranks First

India’s defense budget is the five largest in the world, according to the Military Balance 2018 report by the London-based think tank International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). India overtook the UK as the fifth-largest defense spender in the world in 2017 at $52.5 billion, up from $51.1 billion in 2016, according to the report. In contrast, the UK's defense budget fell from $52.5 billion in 2016 to $50.7 billion last year. 

The Questions Arising from the First Combat Encounter between Iran & Israel

Last Saturday could have been less dramatic: if Israel had settled for just shooting down the Iranian drone (along with the photographs and a massive press conference), the first-ever combat encounter between Iran and Israel could have been avoided.

The United States and Britain blamed the Russian government on Thursday for the NotPetya cyber-attack that hit businesses across Europe last year. The UK accused Moscow of "weaponizing information" in a new kind of warfare, and the White House said, "the Russian military launched the most destructive and costly cyber-attack in history."
