The Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI) announced that it is shrouded in uncertainty regarding the nation’s decision to stop supplying weapons and military equipment to Israel.

The Canadian Parliament has decided to halt arms exports to Israel in a non-binding vote. However, ministers in the Ottawa government clarified that this is a temporary suspension and that ongoing transactions are being dealt with.

The outcome, as reported by Defense News Canada, has caused confusion among industry leaders, who are seeking clarification on how to proceed.

CADSI President & CEO, Christyn Cianfarani, said that companies need to know exactly what changes are involved in the exports, and that the government needs to publish more details about changes in export policy to Israel.

Canadian Foreign Minister, Mélanie Joly, stated that the government stopped approving export details to Israel on January 8th. However, Reuters later reported that exports to Israel have continued.

Alexandre Lévêque, the Minister responsible for the Middle East in the Canadian government, said that the export ban applies to products that are weapons that could be used in the current war.

In 2022, the Canadian government approved 315 security export items to Israel, supplying military products worth $15 million.

Citing reports in Ottawa, Defense News said that during the first two months of war, Canada supplied Israel with drone engines, electrical systems for aircraft components, and fire control equipment. This information is based on government material published under the Access to Information Act.
