Yemen’s Houthi militia announced is planning to attack ships sailing in the Indian Ocean as they navigate towards the Horn of Africa at the bottom of the continent.

USNI News, a website dedicated to marine news and analysis, speculates that as part of this, the Houthis will also attack American and British ships.

Behnam Ben Talbou, an expert on Iran and member of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told the website, that the Houthis have the capability of firing into the Indian Ocean, depending on where they launch from in Yemen. He added that their weapons have a range of at least 650 kilometers and their drones can reach targets 2000 km away.

Already in December, the Pentagon admitted that the Houthis currently pose a threat to between 12 and 15 percent of the global trade passing through the Red Sea. "This affects not only Israel or the US, but the entire world, including the residents of Yemen," said Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary, Sabina Singh.
