Lt. Col. “G” is about to make history, as the first female soldier ever appointed by the IDF to command an Israeli Air Force base. Nominated by Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, once this appointment is confirmed she will be promoted to the rank of colonel and assume command of the Ovda Airbase in southern Israel.

“G” enlisted in the IAF’s prestigious pilot training course in 2003, and upon successful completion was assigned to be a transport pilot. During her career, “G” served in various operational and command positions, notably as commander of the 122nd Squadron and in IAF Operations.

The Ovda Airbase (Airbase 10) concentrates most of the basic training of the Air Force, serving as a gateway. It also serves as a deployment hub and hosts international exercises.
