Report: Germany to Supply 10,000 120 Tank Shells to Israel

Until now, Germany has mainly supplied Israel with medical supplies and protective equipment. According to the German press, both sides agreed to remain silent regarding the request for the supply of lethal weapons because Israel does not wish to reveal its military limitations

According to Der Spiegel, Germany is about to supply Israel with tank shells to aid in its war in the Gaza Strip. The paper reports that the German government has responded to Israel's request to supply it with 10,000 120 mm caliber tank shells, manufactured by the German Rheinmetall.

The German Chancellor and the German Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs have been discussing the issue since November 2023 and have now agreed in principle to do so, according to the report. However, official confirmation has not yet been given and the website notes that the Israeli embassy in Berlin has also refrained from commenting on this issue.

Until now, Germany has mainly supplied Israel with medical supplies and protective equipment, and Der Spiegel notes that both sides agreed to remain silent regarding the request for the supply of lethal weapons because Israel does not wish to reveal its military limitations.

Since the German industry is unable to supply the desired precision ammunition immediately, the alternative is for the German army to supply the ammunition from its stocks. Thus, Israel's request will be fulfilled immediately and the industry will be able to refill the German army depots within six to eight months.

In December 2023, the U.S. State Department approved the supply of approximately 14,000 120 mm caliber tank shells worth $106.5 million to Israel from the U.S. Army inventory.
