Against the background of the war in the region and with an emphasis on the hostilities in the Red Sea, the American State Department approved the provision of military aid to Egypt worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

$129 million has been allocated to supply kits for local manufacturing 28-Meter Patrol Craft Kits to assist the Egyptian government in maritime patrol activities designed to establish maritime security in both the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.

The kits consist of Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats, forward-looking infrared systems, and computer packages; technical and logistics support services; transportation; spare parts, materials, equipment, and components; and other related elements of logistical and program support.

In addition, the State Department approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Egypt of Light Tactical Vehicle Chassis and Fleet Build and related equipment for an estimated cost of $200 million. The package includes an unknown number of 4-Man REV1-B Rolling Chassis with 190 horsepower (HP) diesel engines upgraded to 205HP turbocharged engines; training for the chassis assembly process, operations, and maintenance; spare and repair parts; testing equipment; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistical and program support.

The State Department notice does not specify the model for which the chassis are intended. The State Department announcement does not specify the model for which the chassis are intended. Army-Technology.com website notes that Egypt does not operate any vehicle produced by AM General. Instead, the Egyptian Army currently uses 114 units of the Sherpa 4×4 light utility vehicle supplied by the US manufacturer, Arquus Defense.

In addition, the Egyptian Government also signed a deal in 2017 to acquire 2,000-3,000 Panthera T6 armored multi-purpose vehicles from Minerva Special Purpose Vehicles, an Emirati supplier.

There are two possible explanations for this circumstance: either Arquus’s 4×4 chassis is similar to AM General’s 4-Man REV1-B Rolling Chassis or the Egyptian Government intends to procure AM General’s Light Tactical Vehicle options.
