Press in Brazil reports that the Army received the first software-defined radio prototypes manufactured by the company AEL Sistemas, a subsidiary in Brazil of Israel’s Elbit Systems.

The prototypes delivered two weeks ago are part of the RDS DEFENSA project promoted by the Ministry of Defense, Army, and various companies of the Brazilian Defense Industrial Base to provide a wide range of radio equipment to be used by the infantry, both portable and in backpacks, as well as those to be used from vehicles.

The RDS DEFESA project encompasses the research and development of vehicle radios, portable radios, and backpack radios, covering the HF, VHF, and UHF bands (2 to 512 MHz).

From now on, the entire cycle of functional, performance, and environmental testing is recorded, to verify whether the aforementioned prototypes meet the requirements established for the Project. The radios will then be sent for analysis to the Army Evaluation Center.
