Report: The US and Britain are Preparing to Attack Yemen

The decision comes after more than 22 Houthi attacks on merchant ships passing through the Red Sea, as well as against American warships

Yesterday, ten Houthis were killed when helicopters from the American aircraft carrier, the USS Eisenhower, attacked four Houthi speedboats. Three boats sank, and the crews were killed; the fourth boat escaped to Yemen. Before the attack, the Houthis had been warned and given one last chance to stop attacking merchant ships in the Red Sea as far as Egypt's Bab al-Mandab.

Fighter jets from Great Britain, the United States, and another European country are preparing to attack Houthi targets in the Red Sea or at their bases in Yemen. The British Sunday Times wrote yesterday that the two powers would issue a 'final warning' to the Houthis. British Defense Minister Grant Shapps spoke with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

The British minister said, "We will not allow the Houthis to damage the international trade route and take the Anyuts route hostage." A British source said the British-American airstrike would be "limited but significant."

US Central Command Centcom announced that the container ship "Hangtsu" was hit by missiles while sailing in the southern Red Sea on Saturday afternoon. The ship's crew broadcast distress calls and a request for assistance, although the ship could continue sailing. Three US Navy vessels came to the rescue, and the destroyer "Gravely" intercepted two more ballistic missiles.

Danish shipping giant Maersk announced yesterday (Sunday) further suspension of any voyages by container ship in the Red Sea (after the Houthis attacked one of their container ships with missiles and small boats). The Maersk container ship had been sailing from Singapore towards the Suez Canal and was attacked about 50 nautical miles from the port of Hudaydah in Yemen.

Last week, Maersk announced the resumption of its shipping lines in the Red Sea following the American announcement of a "Freedom Guard" coalition to protect international shipping and trade routes. Yesterday, however, Maersk again stopped the movement of its ships in the area.
