Hezbollah Claims to Have Launched "Burkan" Rocket at Israel

This is a short-range rocket whose warhead weight ranges from 100 km to 500 km, launched from pedestal launchers of mortar bombs

The terror organization Hezbollah claimed to have used a “Burkan” rocket against an IDF position in northern Israel on Saturday, for the first time. The IDF did not confirm nor deny, saying it is checking the reports.

The "Burkan" is a short-range rocket (up to 10 km) whose warhead weight ranges from 100 km to 500 km. The rocket is launched from pedestal launchers of mortar bombs. Hezbollah was reportedly equipped with these rockets in the middle of the previous decade.

The "Burkan" belongs to the category of heavy rockets, that is rockets with a heavy warhead capable of causing great damage and launched at relatively short ranges, often up to 10 kilometers. These rockets are known as “heavyweights” due to the inverse relationship between the size of the warhead and their short range.

It is important to differentiate between the "Burkan" rocket and the "Burkan 2" ballistic missile. The "Burkan 2" is a medium-range mobile ballistic missile, based on liquid fuel, used by the Houthis in Yemen. The "Burkan 2" reaches a range of over 1,000 km and some estimate that it can reach a range of up to 1,400 km and that it is based on the Scud missile family. Saudi Arabia has claimed that this missile was developed with the help of the Iranian military industry.
