IDF’s Maneuvering Units all-terrain light reconnaissance vehicle

In April 2021, an agreement was signed for the supply of 9 vehicles to the IDF by IAI, with the option to order 21 additional vehicles

In the Israeli television reports on the war, the ZMAG vehicle, a tactical all-terrain vehicle used by special forces units in the IDF, was spotted.

Developed by ELTA, a group and subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), the ZMAG is an all-terrain light reconnaissance vehicle designed for ground forces. This vehicle is part of the Z family of vehicles, which includes the Zibar and ZD vehicles, originally developed by the Israeli SUV manufacturer, Ido Cohen. In the middle of 2020, IAI acquired the rights to manufacture these vehicles from Ido Cohen.

In April 2021, Israel’s Ministry of Defense signed an agreement with IAI/ELTA to manufacture and supply the IDF with nine ZMAG vehicles, with an option to order 21 additional units. The first ZMAG vehicles purchased by the MoD will feature unique capabilities designed especially for the needs of the IDF’s Maneuvering Units.

IAI/ELTA describes the ZMAG as a rugged off-road multipurpose 4X4 vehicle, built to withstand the harshest environmental conditions and offers outstanding off-road performance. With a powerful and robust engine and highly reliable automatic transmission, together with a highly ruggedized suspension system, the ZMAG can transport soldiers (up to 14 seating capacity) and large payloads at considerable speed and stability over sand dunes, rocky trails, swamps, and streams, making it an extremely reliable platform for maneuvering forces.
