The IDF elite commando unit Maglan employed the “Iron Sting” guided mortar munition, marking its first operational use.

The combatants targeted a launching position in the Gaza Strip, of the Hamas terrorist organization, from which rocket attacks were carried out towards the territory of the State of Israel.

Developed by Israel’s Elbit Systems, “Iron Sting” offers a range of 1-12 km, depending on the mortar tube. According to Elbit, it provides robust capabilities in various battlefield scenarios.

“Iron Sting” features a seeker laser sensor capable of operating with a standard pulse. Its warhead is capable of penetrating Double Reinforced Concrete (DRC) with a blast and fragmentation effect. Mission loading time is 15 seconds, and no meteorological data is required.
