IAI to supply South Korean planes with radars for early warning & control systems

The system will be used to detect and analyze targets across the country, as well as to command and control military operations in the air in real time

Korean Air is partnering with L3Harris International to develop an airborne control system for the Korean military.

The system, known as an airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) system, will be used to detect and analyze targets across the country, as well as to command and control military operations in the air in real time. The system will be equipped with state-of-the-art radar technology from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and will be built on Bombardier's latest Global 6500 model.

An airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) system is a military system that uses aircraft equipped with radar and other sensors to detect and track aircraft, ships, and other objects. These systems are typically used to provide early warning of incoming threats, as well as to control and coordinate the deployment of air defense assets.

AEW&C aircraft are often equipped with radar domes or other sensors that are mounted on the top of the fuselage, giving them a distinctive appearance. They are typically large, long-range aircraft that are capable of remaining airborne for extended periods of time, allowing them to provide continuous surveillance and early warning coverage.

In addition to radar and other sensors, AEW&C aircraft may also be equipped with communication systems that allow them to coordinate the deployment of air defense assets and other military forces.

Korean Air will participate in the overall development process, including the production of parts, training for operators, and the creation of instructional manuals.
