Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid met with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama yesterday (Sunday) at the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem.

The leaders discussed increasing cooperation between their countries in a range of areas, as well as strengthening of bilateral ties, and overcoming common challenges faced by the two countries, with an emphasis on the Iranian threat.

Against the backdrop of the Iranian cyber attacks on Albania that occurred in recent months, Lapid proposed cooperating in the field of cyber in order to strengthen both countries’ defensive capabilities against this threat.

Following a series of Iran-attributed cyber attacks on Albanian state servers, Tirana severed diplomatic ties with Tehran in September

“Iran is a shared threat to both Israel and Albania. We saw this during the recent Iranian cyber attacks against Albania. Israel will assist as much as possible in the effort against Iran. We see this as a national interest and an historical obligation," said Lapid.

During Rama’s three-day visit he is expected to meet with Gabi Portnoy, the head of Israel’s National Cyber Directorate, as well as with President Isaac Herzog and opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu.
