Switzerland’s Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport announced last week that the first roll tests of the Hermes 900 reconnaissance UAV system have been successful.  The first flight of the Hermes 900 - designated locally as ADS-15 - is scheduled for June.

Towards the end of April 2022, two deliveries of the first two UAVs and various maintenance materials arrived in Switzerland. After the UAVs had been assembled by specialists from the Israeli manufacturer Elbit and the first functional test had been carried out, Swiss Army specialists have started the first ground and flight tests on the runway of Emmen Air Base.

After completion of flight-testing and approval by the military aviation authority MAA, the two UAVs will be handed over to the Swiss Air Force in the course of 2022-second semester. The remaining four UAVs will follow by the end of 2023.

In November 2015, Elbit Systems won a contract worth approximately $200 million from the Swiss government for the purchase of 6 Hermes 900 systems and ground systems.
