Georgia will start indigenous manufacturing of assault rifles and UAVs. The JAMnews website reported that Georgian Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze announced that the Eurasian country is currently in talks with South African, Polish and Israeli companies as well as NATO member states to launch the Defense Forces 2030 Program that includes the production of assault rifles and UAVs.

According to the minister, an agreement to launch the production of drones will be signed in 2021, and the production will begin in 2022. Burchuladze added that the production of M4 rifles within the framework of the joint Georgian-Israeli Delta enterprise is expected to commence at the end of this year. In early March, the Georgian Ministry of Defense announced that the minister met with a representative of the Israeli company Elbit Systems, and during the meeting they discussed the development of the local defense industry based on the Delta joint enterprise.

It is well known that only two Israeli companies can produce M4 or similar rifles in the quantities needed by the Georgian Army as well as provide knowledge for indigenous production. Emtan denied that it was involved, while IWI, a subsidiary of SK Group, did not respond to a request for comment.
