Portugal wants to integrate active protection systems into its tanks

A coordinator for the Forces Planning Division of the Portuguese Army told Janes that the topic is under discussion, and that it is possible that it will be part of a comprehensive self-defense program for the Army's Leopold 2A6 tanks

Manufacturers of Israel's "Trophy" and "Iron Fist" systems, take note: The Portuguese Army is considering integrating active protection systems into its tanks so crews will have the capability of 360-degree self-defense, namely detection, identification and interception of anti-tank munitions.   

A coordinator for the Forces Planning Division of the Portuguese Army, Major Ricardo Araujo Silva, told Janes that the topic is under discussion, and that it is possible that it will be part of a comprehensive self-defense program for the Army's Leopold 2A6 tanks.
