The Ukrainian Army is procuring up to 75 BTR-4 armored vehicles. The Defence Blog website reported that Ukraine's Ministry of Defense has signed a new contract with state-owned Kharkiv Morozov Design Bureau (KMDB) for the serial production of an indigenous BTR-4 8×8 armored fighting vehicle.

The long-awaited contract for up to 75 new BTR-4s includes two versions of the combat vehicle: the BTR-4E wheeled armored personnel carrier and an advanced amphibious configuration for the Ukrainian Naval Infantry. The contract will also include an unspecified number of command vehicles and special-use ones. In January, KMDB Director Yakov Mormilo said that 60 amphibious armored personnel carriers would be produced in 2021 for the Ukrainian Marines, the report said.

The new amphibious version of the BTR-4 is said to have enhanced lethality, survivability and maneuverability compared to the basic version. The vehicle is fitted with systems that enable it to be used for sea operations, and it can negotiate water obstacles without any configuration changes. The BTR-4EM will possess ground mobility and speed similar to the BTR-3 and BTR-4 during sustained operations ashore and have the capability to provide organic, direct fire support to dismounted infantry, according to the report.
