Indian Army to procure almost 100,000 new close quarter battle carbines

The future deal is estimated to be worth $110 million

Once again, India is to acquire a huge amount of small arms. The Janes website reports that the Indian Army has issued a request for information (RFI) to overseas and domestic vendors for the procurement of 93,895 close quarter battle carbines for an estimated $110 million.

The RFI states that the Army seeks to acquire 5.56x45mm carbines via the Ministry of Defence’s Fast Track Procedure. The weapons are required to be 650 mm long in foldable conditions and 800 mm long in extended conditions, and weigh no more than 3.3 kg, according to the report.
