Next commissioner of the Israel Police: Yaakov (Kobi) Shabtai

Shabtai is currently commander of Israel's Border Police. 'The decision on the appointment of a permanent commissioner of the Israel Police is an important and essential decision especially at this time,' according to the Police

The commander of the Border Police will be the next chief of the Israel Police. The decision was made by Internal Security Minister Amir Ohana. The acting commissioner, Motti Cohen, is retiring.   

"The Israel Police congratulates Deputy Commissioner Yaakov (Kobi) Shabtai on being chosen as the next commissioner of the Israel Police," a statement by the Police Spokesperson's Office said. "The decision on a permanent commissioner for the Israel Police is an important and essential decision especially at this time, first and foremost for the future of the police and its resilience, and consequently, for the future and the resilience of the country and the entire society."
