InnoVision Ecosystem Awards to be held from Israel for the first time

The annual global event, which showcases innovative new technologies created by ecosystems from around the world, will be held digitally from Tel Aviv

For the first time, Tel Aviv was selected to be the host city for the global InnoVision Ecosystem Awards, which will take place on October 13th. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held digitally, with an international broadcast from nine global centers: the main one in Tel Aviv, and the other eight from the various countries of the competition finalists.

The InnoVision Ecosystem Awards showcase and celebrate innovative new technologies that are created by local ecosystems and applied internationally. An ecosystem can be explained as a network involved in the delivery of a specific product or service, with each entity affecting and affected by the other. It can be as small as a hub or tech park, or as large as a city. This year, 45 diverse ecosystems from 39 countries applied for these Awards. They span a broad range of fields such as medicine and healthcare, climate and sustainability, digital services, electric transportation, AI, and more.

Among the competitors this year are MIND (Milan Innovation District) from Italy, with its innovative technology for COVID-19 serological diagnostics; Finland’s Helsinki Business Club, for its quantum technology research; Iceland’s Ocean Cluster, which developed electrical boats without CO2; the city of Curitiba, Brazil, for its free, digital eyesight test and its eye health care robot; and Japan’s Keihanna Science City, for its music therapy app for dementia patients.

By October 1st, an expert panel of 18 international judges will select the eight final nominees, basing its decision on criteria such as impact, sustainability, creativity, internationalization, and the possibility of making a positive contribution to the global community. In addition, the judges will look at factors such as regulation, access to finance, level of constituent involvement (such as government, academia, investors and more), investment in education, and HR quality, among others. The winner will be announced by the end of the live October 13th event. This year, the InnoVision Ecosystem Awards will be held as part of Israel’s largest high-tech conference, DLD Tel Aviv.

The judges’ panel is headed by world-renowned serial Israeli entrepreneur, Dr. Yossi Vardi. He will be joined by Ambassador Emanuele Giaufret, Head of the EU Delegation to Israel, and by peers from the US, Europe, South Africa, Taiwan, and the United Arab Emirates.
