AFI Properties, which specializes in real estate investments in Israel and Eastern Europe, has completed a large-scale project to upgrade and consolidate IT infrastructure at the company's main data center in Romania and the DR site in Israel using technology from leading enterprise cloud computing company Nutanix.

The data centers serve the company's offices in eight countries. The project was carried out through DNA-IT, a Nutanix partner.

As part of the expansion of AFI's business operations it was decided to consolidate the company's IT system, and for this purpose a new data center was established in Romania at the data center of Deutsche Telecom. Next, after exploring various solutions, Nutanix's HyperConverged (HCI) solutions, enabling servers, storage and communications to run through a single system, were selected as a basis for the infrastructure. Nutanix's system works with three Super-Micro servers, running about 130 virtual servers. The infrastructure supports Microsoft Terminal Servers, which will be running the SAP Business One ERP system that is currently being implemented in all corporate offices worldwide.

At the end of the project at the Romanian production site, the project for the upgrade of the DR site in Israel began with the establishment of a single Nutanix-based infrastructure, which operates on three physical servers running 72 virtual servers. AFI Properties is considering replacing the current virtualization solution with Nutanix's solution in the near future. The scope of the projects so far in Romania and Israel is estimated at approximately NIS 600,000.

Shira Baum, CIO of AFI Properties, said "The company's infrastructure and applications were previously separated in different, non-connected systems across the eight countries we are operating in. Upon starting my job as CIO and after a comprehensive examination, it was decided to radically change the company's IT systems. After a short stage of market research and examination of various alternatives, AFI decided upon a cloud model with the Nutanix HCI solution that was chosen due to its cost and ROI. Also, in comparison to others, the solution is innovative, performs well at around 90,000 IOPS every two seconds, and has a high level of service."

Baum added that "The infrastructure consolidation process allows us to easily do everything involved in managing, maintaining and securing the system. In addition, we saved a considerable amount of floor space: from a data center that spans an entire room of 15 square meters in Israel, to one small server cabinet."

Ben Semo, territory account manager at Nutanix Israel, said "The selection of Nutanix has resulted in a huge change. AFI can operate the main data center and DR site with dramatic savings in resources. The costs of managing and operating the IT system have dropped significantly, both because of the savings in management, operation and information security, and because of the savings in floor space and expenses. Establishing the data center will be the infrastructure that will enable the global organization to work in a completely transparent manner across all branches with full sharing of knowledge and information, to provide a fast response to any business needs with high performance and optimal survival."
