The Singapore Armed Forces’ new locally-developed Hunter armored fighting vehicle (AFV) was commissioned earlier this week by Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen.

The Hunter, the SAF’s first fully digitalized platform, was developed by the Singapore Army, the Defense Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and ST Engineering.

The new AFVs are set to replace the Army’s fleet of Ultra M113 armored fighting vehicles, which have been in service since the 1970s.

The Hunter is equipped with a Rafael-made Remote Controlled Weapon Station. Singapore chose Rafael’s proposal over an offer from rival Elbit Systems. According to IsraelDefense sources, price was a crucial factor in the decision.
