South Korea Launches First Commercialized 5G Network

South Korea's three major mobile carriers on Wednesday celebrated the world's first commercialization of a 5G network as they opened new mobile services for honorary customers.

The nation’s leading mobile provider, SK Telecom, presented several of its 5G service promotion ambassadors with a Samsung Galaxy S10 5G smartphone to use the service. The other two carriers to begin their 5G services were KT Corp. and LG Uplus Corp.

The three telecom firms originally planned to start their 5G services on Friday, but they decided to do it early following rising speculation that US mobile carrier Verizon may start its 5G services on Thursday.
