Russia has reportedly demanded that the Lebanese army take action against a network of Hezbollah tunnels revealed by Israel in recent weeks.

A report by the London-based Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper on Monday said that a message was conveyed by Moscow to Beirut that the tunnels violate UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and should be dealt with by the Lebanese army.

The reported warning came following a visit to Moscow last week by an IDF delegation who met with their Russian counterparts and discussed, among other issues, the anti-tunnel operation known as Operation Northern Shield.

Russia gave its backing to the Israeli anti-tunnel operation a day after its launch on December 4 but warned against violations of the UN armistice.

Thus far, the IDF has exposed and destroyed four cross-border Hezbollah attack tunnels.
