Bulgarian state-owned arms manufacturer VMZ Sopot will start production of unmanned aerial vehicles under an agreement signed with Israel's Aeronautics, Bulgaria's economy ministry said on Thursday.

The agreement for cooperation and technology transfer will allow VMZ Sopot to launch production of drones under its own brand, as well as ensure their maintenance, the ministry added.

The cooperation agreement was signed by Atanas Bogdanov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of VMZ Sopot, and Adi Cohen, Director of Business Development and Marketing at Aeronautics, during a trilateral meeting with the Minister of Economy Emil Karanikolov.

According to Bogdanov, the agreement is an important step in VMZ Sopot's strategy to enter the sector of new technologies.

Adi Cohen of Aeronautics said the Israeli dronemaker’s aim was to set up an assembly and production line of UAVs in Bulgaria and approach new markets together with VMZ Sopot.
