The Iranian Defense Ministry has launched a production line for its Fakour-90 air-to-air missile.

Iran's Defense Minister, Brig. Gen. Amir Hatami, who was present at the inauguration ceremony on Monday, said the missile was developed based on operational needs and in cooperation with the Army Air Force of the Islamic Republic, the state-run IRINN TV reported.

The radar-based medium-range Fakour-90 missile, which is based on the US-made AIM-54 Phoenix, can be mounted on Iran’s F-14 Tomcat fighter jets to intercept and destroy air-to-air targets.

Iranian media reported that the missile has a range of 150 km, a speed of Mach 5, and a guidance system that enables it to hit a target independently of the launch aircraft’s radar.

The Fakour-90 was unveiled and successfully test-fired in 2017.
