Rafael Advanced Defense Systems carried out a demonstration of its Drone Dome counter-UAV system to the UK’s Ministry of Defense in January, Shephard Media reported earlier today.

The system’s radar is capable of detecting small objects at ranges of up to 16km and can direct its soft kill jamming capability across a narrow area to avoid disruption of other legally-operated unmanned systems in the area.

A senior official from Rafael told Shephard that the demonstration was for detection and jamming and did not involve the hard-kill laser capability that the system can offer.

Capable of disabling an airborne UAS with a two-second concentration from its 5Kw hard kill laser effector, the system is described as having a technology readiness level (TRL) of "around 6-7" and a range of 2km.

The system could be utilized by military or security services, as well as private industry. The official said that "a very important European car company" had asked the company to provide counter-UAS capability across its secretive vehicle test site.
