US Accuses Iran of Providing Ballistic Missiles to Houthis

According to the US Ambassador to the UN, Iran has supplied the Houthi rebels in Yemen with ballistic missiles, which can carry up to a 750-kg warhead and travel up to 800 km. Could Hezbollah be also in possession of such missiles?

US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikky Haley publicly accused Iran of providing ballistic missiles to the Houthi rebels in Yemen, according to Fox News. The Iranians had previously denied such allegations.

Ambassador Haley has unveiled components of an Iranian Qiam-1 missile recovered from target sites in Saudi Arabia fired on by the Houthis. She underscored that the threat posed by Iran’s ballistic missile program is not limited to launches, but its missile proliferation is equally as severe and destabilizing.

According to Fox, the Qiam-1 is an Iranian liquid-fueled short-range ballistic missile based on a modified Scud design. First debuting in Iran in 2010, the Qiam-1 is Iran’s first finless ballistic missile. Iranian outlets claim the Qiam-1 can carry up to a 750-kilogram warhead and travel up to 800 kilometers.

The issue of ballistic missiles proliferation to Iranian proxies in the Middle East is especially worrisome for Israel, mainly in the context of a future confrontation with Hezbollah. Although such weapons have not yet been observed in Lebanon, the terrorist organization might also be in possession of the Iranian missiles.
