Egypt Receives First S-300VM Air Defense Missile System from Russia
The Egyptian Armed Forces have received the first batch of missiles for the S-300VM Antey-2500 missile defense system, the menadefense.net reported.
Egypt will be officially the first export client for this advanced system that can intercept and destroy aircraft and missiles (including ballistic ones) in large radius area. Three regiments of S-300VM have been ordered by the Egyptian army, which will significantly modify the power balance in the region.
The Russian-made missile defense system offers long-range protection against both airplanes and missiles. The system is designed to defeat short- and medium-range ballistic missile, aeroballistic, and cruise missiles, fixed-wing aircraft, as well as loitering ECM platforms and precision-guided munitions.
This system can engage ballistic missiles at a range of 250 km and aircraft at a range of 200 km. It can reach targets at an altitude of up to 30 km. This air defense system can engage up to 24 aircraft or up to 16 ballistic missiles simultaneously.
