Kurdish Peshmerga forces recently confiscated a drilling machine the Islamic State was using to dig their underground tunnels, according to a report on kurdistan24.

Judging by the published photo, ISIS is using a very simple version of a tunnel boring machine. Apparently, the excavated soil is removed by hand using bags, which can also be used to support the tunnel.

During the fighting in Mosul in recent days, ISIS fighters dug quite a few tunnels. Earlier evidence was found in Iraq and Syria.
