Heckler & Koch Wins NATO Small Arms Contracts

The company will supply its pistols, assault rifles, grenade launchers, and signal pistols to Spain, Canada, Latvia, and Lithuania for a total value of €23.5 million

Heckler & Koch announced that it has received orders from several NATO countries. The Spanish Ministry of Defense once again ordered Universal Self-Loading Pistol (USP) handguns from a framework agreement. The 9 mm x 19 caliber pistol – known as the P8 in the German Army version – is the personal standard backup pistol of the Spanish Armed Forces. In addition, Heckler & Koch was commissioned to supply additional G36 assault rifles as part of a replacement order.

Since its introduction in 1999/2000, the G36 has been the reliable standard rifle of the Spanish Armed Forces. In total, Spain will invest around €14.1 million in strengthening its armed forces with additional small arms over the next two years.

Meanwhile, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) continues to increase its supply of HK269 40mm grenade launchers. The contract value is around €1 million. The Canadians would like to further advance the operational capability of their police officers to protect public safety as part of a replacement budgeted for 2024.

The Baltic NATO states Latvia and Lithuania are also ordering additional G36 assault rifles from existing contracts for their armed forces. In doing so, they are expanding their standard assault rifle inventory across the board. In addition, the Latvian Ministry of Defense is calling for an additional 40mm grenade machine guns and signal pistols from its contract with Heckler & Koch.
