After five days, Israel’s “Shield and Arrow” operation against the Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip has come to an end. The operation was launched following ongoing rockets fired at Israeli communities near the Gaza Strip.

In an overwhelming opening move, the Israel Air Force targeted three of the Islamic Jihad’s leaders, and throughout the operation it significantly damaged the organization’s top command, launch capabilities, and reinforcement.

Achievements included:

  • The targeting killings of six Islamic Jihad leaders, thanks to superb intelligence and a precise execution. It should be noted that the terrorists were immersed within civilian population, including their families, and while the IDF did it’s best to avoid harming civilians, several Gazans – including children – lost their lives as a result.
  • The IDF destroyed over 120 rocket launchers during the operation’s five days, leading to significant harm to the Islamic Jihad’s rocket firing capabilities. The IDF estimates that this prevented the firing of over 800 rockets to Israeli territory. Over 1000 rockets were launched at Israel during the operation, only about half making it over the border. At least four Gazans were killed within the Gaza Strip as a result of failed launches. Another Gaza resident, working in Israel, was killed over the border when he was hit by rocket fragments.
  • The IDF also attacked and destroyed 12 Islamic Jihad munition production sites, and 19 operational headquarters – infrastructure located in civilian buildings
  • The Israel Air Force operated 120 armed fighter jets and detonated 250 tons of bombs. There were also 115 attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
  • The operation was characterized by extensive cooperation of the IDF’s air, sea and land
