Kawasaki Heavy Industries said Monday that it is possible that certain data was breached as a result of unauthorized access to a server in Japan. It is possible that the breach targeted information connected to the defense products of the company that manufactures planes and submarines for the Japanese Defense Ministry.

Kawasaki said that it discovered that the server was accessed via companies in Thailand during a system audit on June 11 of this year, and confirmed the possibility that data was leaked. The administrator identification and password of the company's domestic system were stolen, the company said. The access from outside the company began no later than September 2019, according to the company.

An investigation by Kawasaki Heavy also discovered illegal access via companies in Indonesia, the Philippines and the US. Kawasaki Heavy said it has already strengthened its information security. According to the company, no unauthorized access has been found since August of this year. "We deeply apologize for causing troubles and worries," Kawasaki Heavy said in a statement.
