Saudi Arabia to Start Manufacturing THAAD Components


Cooperating with Lockheed Martin is expected to boost the defense industry capabilities in Saudi Arabia

Lockheed Martin has signed an agreement with Saudi companies to manufacture components of the advanced THAAD missile defense system in Saudi Arabia. The corporation announced that contracts for manufacturing components of the system in Saudi Arabia will help improve manufacturing capabilities in the kingdom and transfer knowledge and expertise to strengthen the security industries in Saudi Arabia.

The contract was announced at the arms exhibition held in Riyadh, where the Saudi military industry signed 11 different contracts. This, against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the Middle East, with a war unfolding against Hamas and attacks by Houthis and against them.

President Biden supported the provision of THAAD missile defense systems to Saudi Arabia to deal with ballistic missile threats.

This week, the European corporation Airbus also announced that it is in talks with several countries, including Saudi Arabia, regarding the possibility of purchasing the military tanker aircraft based on Airbus' A330 passenger aircraft.  Boeing Saudi Arabia has signed an agreement with the major Saudi logistics company, Bahri Logistics, for a partnership in the production of military products and various services.
