Rafael Advanced Defense Systems is eyeing Eastern Europe as a key market for armored vehicle upgrades, claiming that German Leopold tanks and Russian T-72 tanks can be potentially equipped with its Trophy active protection system (APS).

The company is currently under contract to supply more than a thousand Trophy units to the Israeli MoD, which will be integrated on the IDF's Merkava Mk3 and Mk4 main battle tanks, as well as on the Namer APC. The Trophy system has also been integrated and evaluated on the US Army’s M1A2 Abrams MBT.

Yizhar Sahar, director of marketing and business development for Rafael’s Land Maneuver Systems, said that there could be opportunities for Trophy in countries such as Poland as they look to upgrade their Soviet-era T-72 main battle tanks as well as their newer Leopard 2 fleets.

"We see ourselves in all the countries that are somewhere in between the western and the eastern side," Sahar said at the MSPO Exhibition held in Poland. "We want to be [the company] they decide to go with for these applications," he added.
