We Have the Advantage –The Air Force Strikes Should Be Continued

We are gaining a great advantage in the current round of strikes against the Islamic Jihad organizations in Gaza, and therefore, our strikes should continue.

This incident was ignited by the targeted assassination of Zuhair al-Qaisi, Secretary-General of the Popular Resistance Committee (PRC), who was among the planners of the Road 12 terror attack in Israel in August 2011.

According to reports, al-Qaisi was planning and leading another terror attack against Israeli targets, which was going to be carried out in the coming days. Elimination opportunities such as these are rare, especially in cases of a ticking bomb.

Three conditions should be noted from when the event happened. First, the weather conditions are currently good, and are not limiting offensive capabilities. Second, a fair amount of intelligence information has been collected recently that enables the implementation of precise operations in the Gaza Strip. Lastly, the opposing side is utilizing missiles for longer ranges, which, for its own reasons, are cumbersome, large, and slow missiles whose hit capabilities are lessened and require more time to operate. The opposing side is also paying the price for this. The effectiveness of the defense and interception systems is proving itself, and this provides us with increased operational freedom.

However, it’s more than just the defense systems – it’s also the maturity of the residents living in the areas that are under the threat of the missile attacks, who are learning from experience and are more attentive to the instructions of the Home Front Command.

The IDF has currently focused their activity on air force attacks. In order to turn this round of strikes into a different operation, other conditions are needed. Still, all the existing conditions strengthen and confirm the fact that there’s no need for a ground operation, as the current operation is not intended to topple the Hamas regime.

For the time being, the balance is towards our advantage – the other side is thwarted and far more hurt, and this is how we should proceed.
