Israel Advances F-35 Range Expansion Program With Elbit Deal
The Israeli Ministry of Defense signed a more than $34 million contract with Elbit Systems subsidiary Cyclone to develop external fuel tanks for the F-35 “Adir”
Against the backdrop of Operation Roaring Lion, the Israel Ministry of Defense has signed a more than $34 million (NIS 100 million) contract with Elbit Systems subsidiary Cyclone to develop an extended-range capability for Israel’s F-35 “Adir” fighter jets, manufactured by Lockheed Martin.
The program includes the development and integration of external fuel tanks based on Cyclone’s existing F-16 design. The capability is intended to extend operational range, reduce dependence on aerial refueling, and improve flexibility during long-range missions.
The project is part of a broader Israeli defense buildup strategy led by Defense Minister Israel Katz and Ministry Director General Maj. Gen. (res.) Amir Baram, aimed at strengthening military readiness and preserving Israel’s aerial and strategic edge in the region.
