Base44 Launches Its Own In-House AI Model
The Israeli AI app platform launches “Base 1” to power app creation using real user data
Israeli AI-app builder Base44 has launched its first proprietary large language model, “Base 1,” now live in production across its platform. The move marks a key milestone in its evolution from an AI-powered application builder into a full-stack AI system with end-to-end control over model, infrastructure, and product experience.
Base44 enables users to build fully functional applications in minutes using natural language, spanning personal productivity tools, internal workflows, customer portals, and enterprise-grade software. The platform removes the need for traditional integrations, turning prompts directly into ready-to-use applications.
The new model is trained on Base44’s proprietary dataset, built from tens of millions of real user interactions on the platform. The company says this data provides a strong domain-specific advantage, allowing the model to better understand how users actually design and generate software in real time.
Unlike most app-building platforms that rely on external foundation models, Base44 is now integrating its own LLM across both conversational and code-generation workflows. Base 1 is designed to support multi-step agent behavior, tool usage, and backend operations, enabling more complex application creation end to end.
“Having our own model allows us to continuously improve performance and reduce dependency on external vendors,” said Maor Shlomo, Founder of Base44. “It requires infrastructure, talent, and high-quality real-world data generated by users at scale.”
The company says owning the model layer also helps reduce exposure to rising inference and compute costs, while allowing tighter optimization between product behavior and model performance. Its system is supported by evaluation pipelines and sandboxed environments that enable real-time testing and deployment of updates across live traffic.
Base44 was founded in 2024 by Maor Shlomo. The company was acquired by Wix in 2025 for a reported $80 million, and now operates as part of the global platform for creating, managing, and growing digital presence.
