Elbit America and Anduril Team Up for U.S. Army Howitzer Competition

Elbit Systems of America (Elbit America), the U.S. subsidiary of Israel's Elbit Systems, has announced a strategic teaming agreement with Anduril Industries to offer the SIGMA mobile tactical cannon for the U.S. Army's Sself-propelled Howitzer modernization program.

According to the company, Elbit will provide the 155 mm, 52-caliber fully automated cannon, while Anduril will contribute its command, control, computers, communications, cyber, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C5ISR) capabilities and integrate its AI-driven Lattice software platform into the system. Oshkosh Defense will provide the 10×10 vehicle.

"Built in the U.S. with a fully domestic supply chain, SIGMA is a combat-proven system that provides the modernization and reliability the Army needs now."

According to Breaking Defense, Elbit America will face strong competition in the program. Hanwha Defense USA is expected to submit the K9 self-propelled howitzer; Leonardo DRS and European land systems manufacturer KNDS will offer a variant of the CAESAR howitzer; and Rheinmetall's U.S. subsidiary is also preparing a bid. BAE Systems, through its U.S. operations, is likewise competing and currently produces the Army's M109A7 Paladin Integrated Management (PIM) system.
