Poland Set to Acquire 180 More K2 Tanks from South Korea in $6.2 Billion Deal
The agreement expands Poland’s ongoing military modernization, adding to previous multi-billion-dollar defense procurements
South Korean media reports that South Korea and Poland are set to sign an agreement for the supply of 180 additional K2 Black Panther main battle tanks to Poland, valued at approximately $6.2 billion.
This follows an initial agreement signed in July 2022, under which South Korea committed to providing Poland with K2 tanks, K9 self-propelled howitzers, FA-50 light attack aircraft, and Chunmoo multiple rocket launchers. In August 2022, South Korea signed its first contract with Poland, worth $12.4 billion, covering the delivery of 180 K2 tanks, 212 K9 howitzers, and 48 FA-50 jets.
Poland continues to advance its strategic military modernization efforts, primarily in response to rising tensions in Eastern Europe, particularly the conflict in Ukraine. As one of NATO’s most active supporters of Ukraine, Poland has increased its defense spending and is acquiring advanced weapons systems to strengthen its borders and fulfill its NATO commitments.
As part of its broader military buildup, Poland is moving forward with the acquisition of 1,400 Borsuk armored vehicles, each equipped with a pair of Spike LR/LR2 missile launchers manufactured by Rafael; 200 AARGM-ER anti-radiation missiles produced by Northrop Grumman; 100 KRAB self-propelled howitzers; three air-defense satellites; MQ-9B Sky Guardian attack drones; and more.
