Brigadier General Effie Defrin has been appointed as the IDF Spokesperson, replacing Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, who held the position. The appointment was approved by Defense Minister Israel Katz following the decision of IDF Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi. The change of command ceremony is expected to take place in the near future.

Defrin brings extensive combat experience to the role, including serving as an armored battalion commander and fighting in the Second Lebanon War, during which he was wounded. In his most recent position, he headed the Tevel Division, responsible for the IDF’s foreign relations. Halevi expressed his gratitude to Hagari for his significant service, both as commander of the Navy’s Shayetet 13 unit and as IDF Spokesperson during the war.

The appointment comes at a sensitive time, as the IDF continues to deal with the consequences of the ongoing Iron Swords War and security challenges across various fronts. The role of IDF Spokesperson is crucial in conveying the military’s actions to the public, the media, and international stakeholders, as well as maintaining public trust in the IDF.

Alongside the announcement, it was reported that Chief of Staff Halevi conducted a situational assessment yesterday and toured the security zone in Syria with Northern Command Chief, Major General Ori Gordin, and the commander of Division 210, Brigadier General Yair Palai. Additionally, IDF inspectors began conducting reviews in the Northern Command yesterday morning, aimed at assessing readiness, discipline, and operational routine.
