IAI and India's BEL Establish Joint Venture to Strengthen Indian Defense

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and the Indian company Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) have announced the launch of a new joint venture, BEL IAI Aerosystems (BIA), primarily aimed at providing ongoing support services for systems and equipment used by India’s defense forces.
The announcement, made at Aero India 2025, marks a significant step in strengthening defense cooperation between Israel and India and establishes a long-term strategic partnership.
The joint venture, established in September 2024, will play a key role in maintaining India's defense systems by integrating Indian manufacturing capabilities with Israeli technological innovation. The initiative aligns with the "Make in India" vision, promoting India's technological independence while delivering world-class advanced solutions.
This collaboration will facilitate the transfer of cutting-edge technological expertise to India and foster local expertise in critical defense systems. The establishment of a dedicated support infrastructure will enable India to independently operate, maintain, and upgrade its defense systems. In the long run, the venture is expected to generate new jobs, enhance the local workforce, and contribute to the growth of India's defense industry while strengthening the country's position as a key player in the global defense sector.
"This collaboration marks a historic milestone," said IAI CEO Boaz Levy, "as it represents the first-ever joint company established by leading defense firms from Israel and India." He added that the venture reflects the deep mutual trust and the strong, evolving relationship between the two nations.
BEL Chairman and Managing Director Manoj Jain noted that the launch of BIA marks a new era in providing comprehensive support for the products and life cycle of MRSAM/LRSAM systems supplied to all three branches of the Indian armed forces. He emphasized that the joint venture embodies the strategic partnership between India and Israel and underscores the commitment of BEL and IAI to jointly deliver advanced weapon systems along with comprehensive support for India's defense forces.
