Report: Elbit Offers Upgrade Package for Brazilian Air Force's Super Tucano Aircraft

Israeli defense contractor Elbit Systems, through its Brazilian subsidiary AEL Sistemas, has proposed an upgrade package for the Brazilian Air Force's (FAB) Embraer A-29A/B Super Tucano training and strike aircraft, according to Janes, citing Jose Klippel, AEL Sistemas' senior business director.
The upgrade includes the integration of Elbit Systems' E-LynX AR multichannel software-defined radio, compatible with the Link-BR2 datalink; a large-area touchscreen cockpit display; a self-protection suite with a missile warning system, radar warning receiver, laser warning system, and chaff and flare dispensers; the SPECTRO XR electro-optical camera; provisions for deploying bombs equipped with the Lizard-3/4 guidance kit; and enhancements to the aircraft's ground simulators.
Klippel emphasized that the modernization package aims to increase commonality with the FAB's F-39E/F Gripen fighter fleet while enhancing situational awareness. Notably, Brazil's Gripens also utilize the Link-BR2 datalink and a similar large cockpit display from AEL Sistemas.
The FAB is expected to issue a request for proposals for the Super Tucano modernization program in 2025.
