Sweden Tests Israel's Heo Loitering Munitions as Nordic Defense Cooperation Expands UAV Programs
About a year ago it was reported that Elbit Systems is also promoting its SkyStriker loitering munition systems in the Scandinavian country
The Swedish Defense Material Administration, FMV (Försvarets Materielverk), recently conducted tests with a Hero-type loitering munition produced by Israeli company UVision. This, according to a report by Defense Beacon, based on unverified Swedish sources. The report did not specify which Hero models were involved.
The site notes that it previously covered the involvement of another Israeli company in Sweden’s loitering munitions sector. About a year ago, it reported that Elbit Systems was promoting its SkyStriker loitering munition systems.
Since 2023, Sweden has advanced its armament programs in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles, conducting several demonstrations and tests of various loitering munitions systems. In collaboration with Finland, Norway, and Denmark, Sweden also established a working group within the Nordic Defense Cooperation (NORDEFCO) to enhance regional cooperation in this field.
Additionally, in 2023, the Swedish Defense Research Agency (FOI) launched a three-year project to support the Swedish Armed Forces in analyzing and understanding loitering munitions. The project will culminate in 2025 with live firing tests involving various loitering munition systems.
